Suzanne Thorp

Suzanne is a master craftswoman who uses the traditional techniques of sugar craft in contemporary cake design - connecting the old and the new in a unique way that delights her clients and inspires her students.

Described as one of the UK's most exciting and creative cake designers, Suzanne's work is intuitive, often using a freehand process to build up layers with depth and texture.

Suzanne has appeared in four series of the award winning Channel 4 series 'Extreme Cake Makers', and is one of Cake Masters Magazine UK Top Ten Cake Artists of 2018. She's a competition judge for the world's largest cake competition - Cake International, The Baking Industry Awards, The Cake Professionals and an brand ambassador for Kenwood.

Television

To date, Suzanne has featured in twenty-six episodes of Extreme Cake Makers, the series that lifts the lid on an elite group of cake makers and sugar craft specialists, who go all out to produce the worlds most elaborate and breath-taking creations.

Suzanne's creations for the programme include a replica of the Lutine Bell for Lloyds of London remembrance service, a magical Christmas tale for The Piece Hall in Yorkshire and an enchanting cake based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Suzanne owns the multi-award winning creative cake studio The Frostery. Founded in 2010, The Frostery name has become synonymous with modern royal icing and luxurious detail achieved using traditional cake decorating techniques combined with original, contemporary design. Work by The Frostery has appeared in Brides magazine, Grace Ormonde, Strictly Weddings, Martha Stewart Weddings and Five Star Weddings.

The Frostery Living

The Frostery Living is a contemporary Lifestyle Store based in the village of Delph in Saddleworth run by Suzanne's husband, James. It's ethos is to celebrate those smaller everyday moments through the objects we use and their enduring connections to Craftsmanship, Creativity, Design and Wellbeing.

Union Cakes

Suzanne is also creative director of Union Cakes, an ambitious new online only concept founded in 2019 offering a carefully curated collection of designer cakes at affordable prices.

Kenwood

A collection of Suzanne's exclusive recipes can be found on the Kenwood realcooks website, alongside other Kenwood chefs including Michelin starred Raymond Blanc OBE and Paul Ainsworth and Queen of Cakes, Mary Berry.

Judge

A multiple award winner herself and heavily in demand for her knowledge and expertise, Suzanne is a competition judge for Cake International, the world's largest cake competition, she is The Cake Professionals head judge and was guest judge at the 2019 Baking Industry Awards.

Tutor

From a family of bakers, cooks and farmers, Suzanne has a lifetime of experience and has been making cakes professionally for over twenty years. She studied the technical aspects of cake decoration at highly regarded Salford College and has a certificate of education. She has taught cake decorating professionally to both children and adults at colleges of further education as well as running her own masterclasses at The Frostery.
